History
Formed
in 1972 and incorporated in 1973, Indian Trail
Athletic Association's purpose is to promote and
sponsor athletics and recreational activities
for the youth of the community of Indian Trail
and surrounding area.
The first directors of ITAA were Luke Wood,
Patricia Hauser, JoAnne Lette, Jack McManus,
Cecil Rogers, Pete Deal, and Dot McKee.
Mr. Cecil Rogers (affectionately known as Mr.
Cecil) donated the original piece of property
for the first ball field (field #1 - Babe Ruth
field) - the birth of Edna Love Park (named for
Mr. Cecil's wife Edna Love Boyd Rogers). In
October of 1973, ITAA begin purchasing land from
Mr. & Mrs. Rogers, their children, and
grandchildren as well as Keith and Julia
Williams.
Today, Edna Love Park is
approximately 24 acres in size. Today, thanks
to Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Rogers and the founding
fathers for the strong foundation set in 1972,
ITAA will begin its 35th spring season at Edna
Love Park in April 2007. ITAA, a nonprofit,
private, volunteer organization is dedicated to
developing better citizens by providing properly
supervised sports, year round, for youths ages
five through 15 years of age. There are now
more than 60 teams competing at any one time
throughout the year in baseball, soccer,
softball, basketball, and cheerleading.
Promoting what is good for youth has been and
continues to be the guiding principle of the
ITAA program which teaches basic skills, mental
and physical development, and basic ideals of
sportsmanship and fair play. The membership of
ITAA owns and operates Edna Love Park. Enda
Love Park is self-supported through fees, fund
raisers, sponsorships, and concessions. ITAA
receives a yearly donation from the Town of
Indian Trail but is not affiliated with the
town. ITAA also applies for matching grants
(for capital improvements) through Union County
Parks and Recreation.
ITAA is governed by a 15-member Board of
Directors elected by the general membership in
August of each year. |
